Oh, what a weekend!

Friday at school was Career Day ~ the kids were to dress up as what they wanted to be when they grew up (apparently not freight forwarders because neither one of them wore their pajamas to school ~ LOL!!!!) Brayton wanted to be a Police Officer which was great because we have to costumes from a few years ago. . . which were thrown out on our last massive cleaning of the toys and stuff. So I was kicking myself when Brayton came with the badge from that costume (don't ask how he kept the badge ~ I have no idea, but I was grateful for small miracles). We used the badge for his Police Detective outfit. I thought the sunglasses were perfect, but he couldn't wear them at school he said. I wanted to make him a sticker that said "I love Doughnuts", but we ran out of time before school : ) He asked me if I wanted a "hurts donut", but I declined because I had also seen that Family Guy commercial (or whatever cartoon it was for adults. . .)

Friday afternoon I took Baby for her shots. They needed to be updated which we knew when we got her. They said she looked great and weighs in at 15.1 lbs. I tried to pick the boys up after school, but thought the bus looked empty, so I thought they had switched the bus routes or something ~ I just shouldn't think! They were on the bus ~ oops! I seriously looked like there was only 1 kid on there and I did not recognize him.

Saturday we took naps in the afternoon, slept a little late and were late to the Twins' birthday party. They turned 2 last week and it was a lot of fun! They certainly are getting into the terrible 2's, though. . . Yesterday Amber was going to her sister's house and the twins are going through the separation thing so they didn't want her to go. She put Landen in Jeremy's lap so she could make a break for it and he threw himself back and hit Jeremy in the eye and cut it open! It was one of those situations where he probably could've gotten stitches, but what kind of wienie gets stitches? :-D

Yesterday morning we had our first incident with Baby, well, it wasn't her fault, she was just the accomplice. I told the boys when they were done with breakfast to get in the shower for Church (I was also headed for the shower). I said this just as Taite was sitting down to pet Baby. I showered and was almost ready when Chris asked if the boys were supposed to be getting ready. . . Never a good sign! Brayton was just getting out of the shower and Taite was going to the bathroom, not yet showered. We did a little yelling and told them to hurry up only to find that they didn't move any faster. Needless to say they were late to Sunday School, which was fitting since they had been told a few times.

In the afternoon yesterday, I ran errands and Taite got to go squirrel hunting with Grandpa. Taite had complained of his stomach hurting during Church, but that usually means he has to go to the bathroom. He had to have a cup of tea with Grandma before going out hunting because his stomach hurt again, but that's the last we heard about this. . .until this morning. I went into his room to get him up for school and he said "I can't go to school, I threw up last night" ~ geez, and his room smelled like it! It makes me gag still tonight! He didn't get sick any more, but he certainly wasn't 100% today and couldn't sit at the table during the whole meal tonight. Then Brayton complained that his stomach hurt, but we aren't sure if it really did or if he didn't like what was left on his plate tonight. Unfortunately, Taite's illness forced me to post-pone his birthday sleepover scheduled for tomorrow night. I know that I wouldn't really care for my child to sleepover at another kids house who was sick just the day before! Taite took it much better than I thought he would. I would just feel much better about making sure the "bug" is gone from our house before having anyone over!

A new Baby in the family!

Today I took a friend and we went to look at a miniature schnauzer in St. Peter. I know it's kind of a jaunt over there, but Monica likes to talk, so it was perfect! In St. Peter we met Baby. She was afraid at first, but she is so sweet and I love her already! The boys couldn't believe we have a dog and they jumped (well Taite did at least) at the opportunity to help out with Baby and their chores so they can "feed" her. Since Taite said he'd do anything, we figure this is the perfect opportunity to get him some more responsibility. Tonight he had it easy because Grandma brought the dog food over ~ he did ask if he had to pay us back for getting Baby :-) After meeting her we tried to get her to roll over. It was quite comical. She laid down and wiggled a little then wanted the treat. Well, we couldn't keep it from her, so she tried and then we helped her roll over and she got lots of treats. During this time, Taite came up with his master plan. He will pretend he's blind so we can bring her into the stores with us! I think this is great, only I'm not going to tell him that the pet stores let you bring your pets in, I'll just tell him he has to pretend to be blind and we'll see how good of an actor he is! My plan is perfect ~ his has a slight flaw. . .

When we took this picture, I mentioned that she held her ears up and Brayton thought she'd had her picture taken before and Taite thought we had the most talented dog! Brayton has decided he wants to change her name ~ to Olive (because she's black!) LOL She does need a haircut and that's scheduled for Tuesday, but no schnauzer cut for her ~ Chris' orders :-) So today was fun and had a very happy ending (I didn't tell the boys why I was dropping them off at school today, just in case things didn't work out with Baby) and I should sleep better tonight knowing that all is good.

Lately Brayton has been really into playing Legos. He's been especially excited because he got his brother to play with him the last couple of days! I caught a little video of them tonight playing:

You will notice at the beginning that Brayton has something in his mouth ~ he is trying to break apart two Legos, but when he sees me with the camera, he quickly ditches them into the drawer. Yes, that dresser holds toys. In an attempt to clean up Bray's room, we put his clothes in the closet (before they were in the dresser) and his toys in the dresser (before were in the closet) hoping that keeping his clothes orderly in the closet would be easier. So far it's worked!

Tonight we were finishing up Taite's Star of the Week poster. He only wanted a few pictures printed from the more current ones we had on my computer. I dug out the box of photos anyway and they were fun for everyone to look at! While looking at them, Brayton asked Chris if the one guy in the picture was really Santa. Chris admitted he wasn't the real Santa and Taite asks "Is Santa real or what? I mean is there really a Santa?" Chris kind of chuckled and didn't know what to say. Brayton asked what was so funny, Chris said the pictures were funny and Brayton said "But you were looking at me when you were laughing! What's so funny?" Brayton stressed to Taite that yes, Santa was real because he came to Bray's preschool class! We dodged the bullet tonight, but I'm not sure how much longer this facade can continue. . .

It's so funny to look at the old pictures becuase we had a few of those "Oh, remember this haircut?" and "Look how bad I looked!". Chris found and kept out the picture he saw before he went on his healthy living route and lost 40 lbs. I don't have a specific picture that sent me on the weight loss path, but I'm glad that we've both been down that path and don't want to go back! Makes it so much easier when we are headed the same direction!

Taite brought home a slip to sign up for basketball this winter. The exciting part is that Chris also said he would help coach! I know that is really what he would love to do and I hope they both enjoy it. It's only for 6 nights in Jan & Feb, so if they don't like it, it's not a huge commitment :-)

Friday Brayton brought home his 4 legged animal from art class. Here is the picture:Can you guess what it is? A Bear! I guessed the character from the Ice Age movie, but couldn't remember his name. Brayton said he didn't remember a bear in that movie and I don't think I crushed his feelings though, when I told him I didn't think it was a bear in the movie, it's just what this bear looks like.

For those of you who do not know of the movie, I copied a picture off the internet (yes, it may be illegally, but why don't they protect it if they don't want you to do that?) anyway, here is a picture of Sid (also from the net):

See the resemblance? It's in the eyes and nose, I think, the most. :-)

On Friday I helped in Bray's class with stations ~ I LOVE that age! From about 1st grade on down, is the age group I miss teaching (well, depending on who you talk to, some would not call it teaching because I only have a 4 year degree and it wasn't in early-ed, but whatever). They are so happy and full of energy. The one group I had there were 4 boys and one girl and they were all talking and got to giggling. I couldn't tell them to quiet down because as Lori use to say when I worked with her, and her dad would say ~ "there is no better sound than kids having fun" or something to that effect. I try and remember it when the boys are running around and making lots of noise. I would much rather have them be doing that than in a bed sick somewhere! So, thank you God for their health! It was just 6 years ago we had to spend Thanksgiving in the hospital with Taite while he cried and begged to go home all during the 3 days we were there! UGH, don't want to do that EVER again!

Well, we don't have much else going on here and I'd better go get the chili on the table.

It's a small small world

Last night I picked up Grandma's mail and paper and when I looked at the front page of the paper (we don't get it, so I steal glimpses at the front page when I get hers for her) I was surprised to see Flabio. I didn't have a blog at the time, but last year Brayton was Flabio's Little Buddy. At school they have a wonderful program (I think it's part of the anti-bullying program), but every student is either a Big Buddy (older grades) or a Little Buddy (younger grades). Brayton's Big Buddy was the NICEST kid you will ever meet! I met his mom too at cooking day and immediately knew they were mother/son because they looked just alike and both had the same super personality. I spoke to his mom like we had always been friends and Flabio is one of those kids you are surprised to meet now days ~ polite, sweet and was great to Brayton. So, back to my shock story. . . Last weekend in Dodge Center (just like 30 miles or so from here) there was a father that killed his wife and oldest son, then attacked the 2 girls before slashing his own wrists. It was a horrible story that you can read about on the PostBulletin.com site, but the 2 girls and the dad survived (the brother fought back so his sisters could escape and then later died) and the girls are now living with their aunt & uncle in Byron ~ their related to Flabio and his family! I cannot imagine (nor do I want to) the therapy these two little girls will need (they are the same ages as my boys!) after seeing their mom killed and their dad attacking them. I feel the strong need to help this newly formed family out, but don't quite know how. I guess I will just give them a gift certificate for the grocery store with an open invite to let us know if they need anything more! Please remember these families in your prayers!

Brayton had an eventful day (well at least his afternoon was eventful). When he got off the bus, he came into the mudroom and immediately started washing his hands (a rarity in itself!) ~ it looked like he had blood on them, but come to find out it was marker. Apparently another kid on the bus wrote all over Bray's hands and even though Brayton told him to stop, he didn't. He also had marker smudged on his face and that was from the boy coloring his own hand and then wiping it on Brayton's face. We were upset by this and told him that in the future he does not sit with this Brendan kid. Well, during supper we were talking about it again and found out Brendan is a KINDERGARTNER!!! Chris could certainly understand a 3rd or 4th grader taking advantage of Bray, but a kindergartner? Needless to say, he got a little grief (we all laughed) and still told him not to sit with the boy :0

Brayton also came into the house and was complaining that his binder (has a notebook that we communicate to the teacher in, a folder, and any papers he is bringing home for good or homework to do) was all wet! We asked him how that happened and he said he tripped and when he fell, his binder fell out of his bag (he never has his bag zipped ~ don't know why). Upon closer inspection, I realized his pants were all wet too! After we reassured him all of his stories (below) were not ruined I had to laugh at the vision ~ yes, I laugh at my own kids!

So, here are the stories he was concerned about their safety (I am glad they are intact!). I have translated below each one :)

I went to a zoo (backward 'z') and I saw a bear (backwards 'r') it was swiming and saw horssis and suwm lions. (side note ~ I'm glad I scanned these right away because Brayton decided to correct his spelling errors ~ not near as cute!)

I onse went to my gran (next line) dmas house and she had cats. wild cats. I went to one of them and It jumped down all of the stairs It was funny.

Tonight I had a good productive night, just doing those little odd jobs that pile up until you say "I need to get those done!" Most of, okay, all of my jobs were in my sewing room. I finished the bag my mother-in-law ordered for a co-worker, put buttons on the collars of a $.99 shirt I got Chris at Savers, fixed some bras that the plastic pieces broke on (no, not from "supporting" so much as being washed many times ~ I think our washer is hard on clothes) and took off some worn out elastic on a basket liner and replaced it. It always feels so good to get that sort of thing done so why don't I do that more often???





Geez, I just realized it's been awhile since I last posted, so sit tight, this could be a long ride :-)





Friday afternoon we got to go visit Taite's first grade teacher ~ they have a special bond, those two and it was nice for me to get out of the house and Bray liked playing with the baby and his toys. Of course the boys loved the homemade cookies she had made and ready for them (remember I'm not a big cookie maker, I prefer homemade bread) :-) So the cookies were really a treat!

Saturday morning I spent cleaning the house. It always seems to be neglected when Chris is away. I got most of it done and the boys helped. One of their jobs was to pick up the garbage. At one point all I heard was Taite saying "Bray! You need to be careful!" and then the cone vac was going, and going, and going. I chose not to investigate :-) It was good to have Chris home again because we all miss him and then the boys ask daily when he is coming home.

On Sunday Taite had a birthday party to go to that started at 12:15 on the east side of Rochester (we live on the southwest side of Rochester). So Chris couldn't believe someone would schedule a party during the Viking's / Packer's game!! My suggestion was to record it and just watch it when we got home. It's really fun to watch the football games with the boys (except when they are talking and you want to hear the announcer ~ LOL). Because Taite plays the Madden game on Wii, he is quite knowledgeable, but he has a little way to go. Gosh how I would love to take the to a game!! They would absolutely die!!!

Today both Brayton and Taite got 100% on their spelling pretest! For Taite that means he has to work on 5 challenge words and Brayton gets to take the week off again (he made sure his pre-test is hung on the fridge). For Taite's spelling homework, they always have a packet of 4 sheets to complete so they get used to writing the spellng words correctly (not sure why they have to do this when they pass the pre-test). But anyway, tonight the one sheet he had to work on was to make a list of the spelling words he knew, and then on the other list, the words he was working on learning. . . I told him he could cross out the "working on learning" and write in "already know". Brayton decided with his extra time (not practicing spelling words) he wanted to be quizzed on addition problems. Of course I'm always supposed to just come up with them in my head! Luckily, I found a website or two that you can print off free sheets so they can practice. I figure if he wants to learn, more power to him! I need to find flashcards though! Forgot to look in the dollar store today, that would be a perfect place!

I apologize for not having any pictures to post. The only thing I can think of is to take a picture of Brayton's scarecrow he made in class that says "Boys Rule" across the front. Chris couldn't believe he was allowed to write that on his project. Brayton said "You could decorate them however you wanted to!" LOL

So, we woke up to a white ground today! The boys were very excited, but it didn't last. It did however snow pretty much all day. We dug out the snow pants, boots, hats and mittens and the boys played in the snow for about 2 hours. When they came in their jeans were soaked ~ apparently their snow pants weren't waterproof. They did bring a lot of grass in on their clothes too. . . (I should explain that I was on the phone with my mom when I recorded this ~ I wasn't going to open the window! It's cold out there!)







Last night since the boys didn't have school today, we went shopping! The boys were sooo excited (okay, I made that part up!) It did turn out to be an excellent night for shopping though. Most of the stores we went to were having a sale 30% off (and some that was in addition to already marked down items). The first store we went to was Gymboree and I got the twins and outfit each for their birthdays. Then we went to J.Jill ~ Jane got me hooked on their t-shirts are basically what they are. The one style is called a crossover and I bought a square necked one last night which I also LOVE! They are the softest shirts and after the discount they are almost the price you would pay for a shirt at Walmart or Target! Gotta love it. The funny thing was when Jane and I went shopping there in Sioux City, they have these chairs that are right inside the doors and that's where the boys sat while we shopped. So last night when we walked in Taite plopped in the chair right away ~ I had to laugh to myself! Then we went to the Toy Zone which is an educational toy store and they were having 30% off everything there too, so we finished shopping for the twins' birthdays and got them Christmas presents! Oh and did I mention that my mom has 30% off at Kohls too? Had to go there too! I have to admit that my favorite thing to get there when we have 30% is the Hallmark cards (Fresh Ink). I love to stock up on them and read them! I wish I could come up with them because if I could, I would be rich (mostly by my own purchasing, but that's beside the point, right?) For some of you, here's an example: "You know those tall, elegant chicks that look like models? Strangers ask them if they're models and they say, 'Thanks, but no, I'm not,' and the strangers say 'Well, you could be. . .'" (inside) Well, I think we could be frickin' models, too! LOL I LOVE THESE CARDS! Okay, one more: If you're not going to snort, why even laugh?





So even though the boys didn't have school, that does not mean that Brayton's brain takes a break. . . He first drew me a picture of a pirate (note the peg leg and hook) who is on a ship with a very heavy flag (hence all the support ropes and strong piece of wood parallel to the flag pole). I told dad he may finally get the engineer he's always wanted in the family, he'll just have to wait 20 more years :-)





Next Brayton comes to me with a kleenex box he's took his frustrations out on. He stomped on it ripped it and a few other things ~ he told me I should try it because it felt good (we may need to see a psychiatrist LOL). So he takes his ripped up box and turns it into a knight costume with a few rubber bands. . . Notice the pride in that smile. We did have to use a few pieces of tape to hold on the eye mask thing, but everything else is rubber bands. Funny story ~ he comes to me after awhile and asks me to put these small pieces of soft fabric under the rubber bands on his arms because they hurt. . . his hands were a little funny colored because he had the rubber bands so tight!!! I made him take them off before his hands fell off, much to his dismay!

The boys are happy that Chris is coming home tomorrow because I won't have to drag them along shopping anymore. I was very nice when they were complaining about how much time we spent in town when I reminded them that's why they brought their Gameboys :-) Always planning! But seriously there were no boys harmed in the quest for great deals!

Oh, I just remembered a friend emailed me a website to go to and adopt a soldier, it's http://www.anysoldier.com/ . A few of us over here have been burned a little helping "needy" families in the area (they acted like it was just due them to receive a carload (***yes, carload ~ no exaggeration***) of gifts and money for groceries, no thank you (verbal or handwritten ~ yes the address was included for their reference) and didn't even help unload) which is really too bad because they ruined it for us and others who really are in need! So last year I sent a care package to my cousin who was serving in Iraq and she was thrilled!!! I'm sure they get gift baskets and stuff purchased in bulk, but don't forget to throw in a few gourmet coffees or something a little special (watch Target's clearance ~ they always have great stuff there) and treat a soldier. I know it's their job, but it would still suck to be away from your family for the holidays (or maybe not so much. . .) LOL!! Let the Holidays begin!

So the meeting last night gave us info that we didn't really want to hear. The sex offender moving to our township will be about 1 1/2 miles from our house (judging by who was at the meeting defending the perp and it wasn't his family! His brother asked how could the system lock him up for life. . .) We will definitely be "beefing" up our security system, which shouldn't be only because of him, I don't think you can have too many security measures and this just reminds us. The police start out the meeting (Chris went I didn't, but read the handout they gave) by saying that if you think this guy is bad, go to this website and see how many there are in Hennepin county (up in the Cities)! These guys are everywhere so don't freak out just because one is moving to your neighborhood is basically how they put it! That's a great feeling!

Yesterday my mom and I went to Savers (Monday is $.99 day for certain colored tags). I usually pick up Chris some shirts. Button up ones for work and "work" and most of them are name brand (Columbia, Gap, Lands End, etc.). It works good except when the sleeves are a little short ~ LOL. Then they go into the outside work pile and not the "good" pile. I was browsing the kitchen stuff yesterday when I came across a George Foreman "thing" that had an orange sticker (that was the color for the day)! I snatched it up, not really knowing what it was ~ it doesn't look like the grills, plugged it in to make sure it would heat up and the digital stuff worked and bought it. When I got home, I looked at it a little closer and it has never been used! Some times the food splatters and stuff and there is no sign of any grease, food, anything. I looked online and there was one of these Mini Roaster it's called selling on Ebay for $50 with shipping! Well, I'm not one for making a buck if I can use it, so we used it to cook a tenderloin for supper. It did a very nice job keeping it moist! Definitely a great find for us!

Chris left today for his business trip of the week. He'll be back on Saturday and has most nights filled up with dinners with suppliers, so he'll be eating well this week :-)

Brayton finished the chapter book his teacher gave to him in his "Bag Book" assignment. It was a cute book and she told me that when she gave it to him she asked if he would be okay reading a chapter book. Guess what he said. . . (drum roll). . . "How many chapters does it have?" (remember his obsession with 10 chapters?) They counted the chapters (they were just labeled with words and realized there were only 6. She couldn't resist: "Is 6 okay or do you have a favorite number of chapters you like to read? Like 10?" He said it would be okay and boy was he excited about finishing his first chapter book tonight. Apparently all these chapter stories he starts, he doesn't finish (he has one at home, one in his desk at school and who knows how many more!) I could never do that :-)

Taite is very excited to go to his first Student Council meeting tomorrow. He is curious about what they will discuss. He asked me on Sunday night if I knew what Wednesday was for him and of course I didn't because we don't get a schedule for this, so I'm glad he keeps track of it!

At school today they both had mock elections and Brayton voted for "Brak" and Taite did the same. Brayton even got an "I voted" sticker. They are very anxious to see who actually wins! It's great how they get all the kids educated and excited about voting!

I had better get going on my sewing projects. I am actually going to time myself to see how long it takes to make one of my bags. It's funny, but I can guess, not really having a clue! :-)

This morning with the time change and everything, we made it to church and Sunday school. Chris stayed home to get some things done before leaving this week. To "help" things along, I got the boys' clothes ready while they were showering and put them in their bathrooms (they cannot shower in the same one or it turns into an hour ordeal!). Chris was helpful in getting the boys ready and in the van. I get out at church to help Brayton out and he has nothing on that I layed out! His pants are stained with grease and what looks like Cheetos and his shirt is not ironed at all and he's wearing a hooded sweatshirt! I could button his shirt so you couldn't see the "un-ironed" parts, but his jeans were just awful! The church service was kind of long due to it being All Saints Sunday, so when it came to communion time, Brayton thought we were leaving. I steered him towards the front of the church and was a little concerned he would act a little naughty, so I thought nothing of Taite standing behind me. As I put my wafer into my mouth (it was communion by intinktion (sp?)) I am listening (subconsciously) for the pastor to give the child blessing when he says instead "the body of Christ given for you!" I believe my eyes about bugged out of my head as I turned slowly (I didn't want to make a scene!) to watch Taite casually dip the wafer into the wine! Sheesh, he's not supposed to have communion, but I guess that's a sign we don't go enough cause the pastor didn't even know! Taite told me I never told him he wasn't supposed to! And he looked concerned. I assured him he's not going to hell or anything, but next time, he's supposed to tell him he shouldn't have it! As I was gazing at the congregation to see if anyone else noticed, there was one lady mouthing to me "It's okay!" Boy I hope so, cause it was kind of beyond the point of repair :-)

After church my mom, sister and I went to this fall open house type thing with all kinds of at home type party demonstrators. I found and bought my new favorite perfume ~ Bond Girl from Avon. I love how it smells! We can even get 2 free tickets to the movie when it's in theaters, but that's not my kind of movie. We had fun and met an Arbonne rep we really liked. We'll probably pay a $29 annual fee and then we can order whatever products we want for a discount ~ kind of like being a rep, but you don't have to sell to anyone else! Since we're splitting the fee, it's an even better deal and we'll all be so beautiful, you won't even recognize us! LOL

Halloween, but first. . .

I was going to start with the beautiful weather and what a great day it was for Halloween yesterday, but first, a little venting. . . So last night my dad went hunting and hit a deer. He could find blood only where the deer was standing when he hit it but couldn't find anything beyond that, so he thought he would look for it this morning. The boys stayed overnight at Grandma & Grandpa's last night, so knowing Chris was going over there to help my dad this morning, I bagged up clothes (they always ask to stay overnight when we are already at their house), found their water boots, orange hats and mittens/gloves to send over with Chris so the boys could go along. I knew they would want to and Taite has been asking about hunting, so this would be a perfect opportunity to see at least on part of it (he would have a little trouble at this age with the keeping quiet part!) I just called over to see if they all left and Chris didn't even mention that I had sent clothes and boots/hats/mittens so the boys could go along! I'm sure he had a perfectly good reason, they would walk too slow or something ~ oh wait, you can't walk fast when trailing a deer anyway ~ you might miss something. So, it must be something else I can't think of right now. . . (LATER UPDATE: Brian took the boys out to help search ~ note to self: do not send them in fleece again! Brayton's sweatshirt is full of stickers and so are his gloves)


Yesterday (back to the happy stuff ;) I helped in Brayton's classroom with the class party. It was beautiful outside with mid 60's and a lot of classes were taking advantage of the nice weather. I had planned on getting to school a little early to take a few pictures of Taite's class party, but that didn't work out, so I got a few of Brayton ~ raising his hand (the one in yellow) because he thought he knew the answer to the poem about something with one horn, big and you get out of it's way when it's coming at you . . . he guessed rhino, but it was really a truck! They got to decorate their own cookies and eat them, they played some relay in the hallway, I was in charge of helping them make bats and they played Halloween Bingo. Brayton's teacher mentioned that he likes to joke around once in awhile if she asks him a question ~ I forgot to mention we do that a lot at home, but I think she knows :-)















For Halloween, the boys were a pirate and a ghost ~ I have no idea how Bray got the idea that his costume was a ghost, but everyone called him the grim reaper and he couldn't figure that out! LOL Then I got a picture of me with both of the boys ~ oh wait, the angel is actually Masie (Macy), I have a little less facial hair ~ the halo threw me off!
When we told the boys to get their costumes on, they wanted to wait until it was dark out ~ previous years, the daylight savings time made it dark for trick-or-treating. Being a Friday night there were a lot of people not home.
